If you have to use a or an depends on the sound the word begins with.
Si tienes que utilizar a o an depende del sonido con que empiece la palabra.
If the first sound is a consonant you have to use a.

Carnival
En Inglaterra, el Carnaval se celebra en agosto. En Notting Hill (Londres) salen muchos grupos a las calles y las personas cantan y bailan Calypso.
In Rio de Janiero in Brazil many people go to Samba school. They dance in Samba competitions during Carnival.
In Venice in Italy, there are many carnaval parades on the canals. Many people wear beautiful maks.
En Venecia (Italia), hay muchos desfiles de Carnaval en los canales. Muchas personas usan caretas hermosas.
In Gran Canaria in Spain, groups of people called "murgas" invent and sing funny songs. There are two special events, one for the Carnival Queen election and another for the Drag Queen one. The carnival ends with the burial of the sardine. En Gran Canaria (España), se forman grupos llamados murgas que inventan y cantan canciones divertidas. Hay dos galas importantes, una de elección de la reina del Carnaval y otra de la Drag Queen. El carnaval finaliza con el entierro de la sardina.This year the theme of the carnival in our town, Arucas, is the far west. In our school also celebrate it. We are going to wear American Indian, Cowgirl, Cowboy costumes. The students of 3rd and 4th are going to sing the Oh Susana Song, to be danced by students in sixth. The students in fifth are going to sing and dance Calypso.
El tema de Carnaval este año en nuestra ciudad, Arucas, es el Lejano Oeste. En el colegio nos vamos a disfrazar de indios americanos y de vaqueras y vaqueros. Los alumnos de tercero y cuarto cantarán en inglés la canción ¡Oh, Susana! y la bailarán los alumnos de 6º. Los alumnos y alumnas de quinto cantarán y bailarán Calypso.

St Valentine's Day
This holiday is celebrated worldwide. It is associated with romantic love since people express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, flowers and chocolates. Red hearts are used as decorations everywhere. The fashion of sending cards for St Valentine's Day began in the 19th century. Nowadays, it is estimated that people in Great Britain spend millions of pounds on cards, a nice way of showing affection to our beloved ones.

Esta fiesta se celebra en todo el mundo. Se asocia con el amor romántico, ya que la gente expresa su amor el uno para el otro mediante el envío de tarjetas de San Valentín, flores y bombones. En todo el mundo se utilizan corazones rojos como decoraciones. La moda de enviar tarjetas para el Día de San Valentín comenzó en el siglo XIX. Hoy en día, se estima que las personas en Gran Bretaña gastan millones de libras en tarjetas, una buena forma de demostrar afecto a nuestros seres queridos.
